CEA Reports SinoCES Attendance Numbers

By TWICE Staff -- TWICE, 7/23/2008

Arlington, Va. — The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), co-sponsor of the China International Consumer Electronics Show (SinoCES) in Qingdao, China, reported that it had the largest exhibit space in show history, featuring 500 exhibitors and drawing 61,000 attendees.

The fifth annual show, held from July 10-13, had attendance that was slightly lower than the 63,000 attending during 2007, but its global exhibitors grew from 430 companies last year to 502 this year, and the exhibit space grew by 1,000 square meters, to 36,000 square meters.

“According to CEA market research, Chinese consumers are purchasing more consumer electronics products than ever, with the Chinese CE market set to top $100 billion dollars by 2009. SinoCES serves as a launch pad for U.S. companies looking to introduce their new products into the booming Chinese marketplace,” said Gary Shapiro, CEA’s president and CEO.

“The growth of the 2008 SinoCES mirrors the strength of the global consumer technology industry, and through CEA’s partnership with the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce (CECC) we look forward to the further expansion of this dynamic, global event.”

CEA’s Shapiro delivered a keynote address on opening day, Thursday, July 10. Shapiro discussed the growing consumer electronics industry, the importance of free trade in a global marketplace and environmental stewardship.
