Mattel Releases Digital Camera

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 10/10/2005

Toy maker Mattel has dipped its toe into the digital imaging market with a combination video and still camera for children ages 8 and older.

The Vidster camera captures 1-megapixel still images and video at 320 by 240 resolution. It offers 32MB of internal memory capable of storing up to 10 minutes of video and is compatible with SD memory cards up to 512MB in capacity for additional storage.

The camera also features a 1.1-inch color LCD, a 2x digital zoom, internal microphone and draws power from four AA batteries.

Mattel is bundling a photo editor program and Muvee's autoProducer Software for creating video clips with sound, graphics and effects.

The Vidster is shipping now for a suggested $79.99.

According to a company spokesman, Mattel is looking at related imaging accessories that would allow Vidster users more creative output options.
