CEA Sets Car Speaker Standard

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) published a new standard today for testing car stereo loudspeakers.
Called CEA-2031, it defines test procedures for rating the performance and size of car stereo speakers and lists requirements for reporting the performance.
The standard will help consumers to select speakers that match the output of their amplifiers, said CEA. It also assures that measurements on mounting depth, impedance and power ratings are uniform.
The standard, which took two years to develop because of the complexity of the subject matter, outlines test measurement procedures on car speaker mounting depth, impedance and maximum RMS power. It also provides standards for frequency response for speakers other than subwoofers.
