D-Link Goes For Gamers With New Router

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 12/20/2004

D-Link has developed a new intelligent data-packet processing engine called GameFuel that it has included in the company's first dedicated programming router.

The DGL-4300 GamerLounge wireless router will ship this week with a $179 suggested retail price. The unit sports four 1GBps Ethernet ports and uses enhanced 802.11g wireless technology to deliver a data transfer rate of 108MBps.

“When playing an online game when every millisecond counts, gamers need the fastest router available to give them a competitive edge,” said Steven Joe, D-Link's president and CEO.

The GameFuel technology gives precedence to gaming traffic over a network without slowing the speed of non-gaming traffic. The router is firewall protected and configured through a Web-based interface.

D-Link has also created a GamerLounge Web site that contains additional product information and postings on D-Link-sponsored gaming events and promotions.
