Cobra's Sales, Income Increase In Second Quarter

Chicago Enjoying improved sales in nearly all of its product lines, Cobra Electronics pushed up overall second-quarter sales by 33 percent, hitting $33.7 million, up from $25.2 million in the year-ago period.

JVC Reports 7% Sales Drop

Tokyo— Sales in the Americas climbed year-on-year, due mainly to growth of sales in rear projection televisions and camcorders, said Victor Company of Japan (JVC) in reporting its fiscal first-quarter financial results. However, the uptick in the Americas did not prevent JVC's consumer electronics segment from recording a 7 percent drop in first quarter sales, down to $1.18 billion from a year-ago $1.27 billion.

Hitachi's CE Rev Down 11%

Tokyo— Lower sales prices for flat-panel televisions, including plasma TVs, due to tougher marketplace competition, chewed into fiscal first-quarter sales at Hitachi, with the company's digital media and consumer products segment, mainly consumer electronics, reporting an 11 percent decline in revenue, down to $2.7 billion from a year-earlier $3 billion.

Mitsubishi's CE Volume Up

Tokyo— Sales in the home appliances segment at Mitsubishi Electric, which includes consumer electronics products and is the company's largest business division, climbed 3 percent in the CE maker's fiscal first quarter, hitting $1.91 billion, up from a year-ago $1.86 billion.

Sharp Sales Climb 10.9%

Osaka, Japan — Increasing sales of LCD TVs, mainly for large-size models, as well as mobile phones, contributed to a 10.9 percent climb in the audio/visual and communication equipment segment at Sharp in the company's fiscal first quarter, increasing to $2.13 billion from a year-ago $1.92 billion. The segment includes mainly consumer electronics products.

Thomson Core Sales Rise

Paris— Strong contributions from “growth engines,” such as DVD services and set-top boxes, boosted core net sales in the first half at French media and entertainment company Thomson by 11.8 percent, hitting $3.4 billion, up from $3.1 billion in the first six months of last year.
