AMD To Cut 9 Percent Of Workforce: AP

By TWICE Staff -- TWICE, 1/26/2009

Slow personal computer sales are driving AMD to cut 1,100 jobs, or 9 percent of its global staff, according to a report from the Associated Press.

The article said AMD plans to cut 900 positions and that the rest of the reductions will come from attrition and the previously announced sale of a business unit.

The AP explained that its “9 percent” figure is based on the number of workers who would have remained after 3,000 workers (who AMD said are not to be affected by this round of cuts) are spun off with AMD’s manufacturing operations this quarter.
