LONG BEACH, CALIF. — For the stay-at-home printers, Epson added a 13-inch by 19-inch model to its line of Ultra Hi-Definition Stylus Photo printers earlier this month.
The Stylus Photo 1400 printer uses the company's recently developed Claria inks and DX5 MicroPiezo print heads for droplet sizes as small as 1.5 picoliters.
In addition to typical photo print sizes, the 1400 can produce borderless photos in 11- by 14-inch, 12- by 12-inch and 13- by 19-inch sizes. It offers automatic photo correction and the ability to print directly onto CD/DVDs.
The printer can produce an 8 by 10-inch print in 108 seconds in the "professional quality" setting and is nearly three times faster than its predecessor, the 1280, Epson said.
The unit's six individual ink cartridge tanks offer greater capacity and the inks themselves longer fade resistance than the 1280. According to Epson, the Claria dye-base inks used in the 1400 are fade resistant for up to 98 years under glass and 200 years in an album
The printer will bundle Adobe's $99 Photoshop Elements software and will retail for an estimated $399.
