Almo Adding Olevia LCD TVs

By Colleen Bohen -- TWICE, 4/10/2007

Philadelphia — Almo has entered into an agreement with Syntax-Brillian to distribute the vendor’s Olevia-branded 5 Series line of LCD HDTVs.

“As flat-panel displays reach mass adoption, it’s critical for our dealers to carry an array of display brands ranging from value to professional offerings,” said Almo president Warren Chaiken. “The Olevia brand not only fills a need in the industry for outstanding picture quality at an affordable price, its visibility in the marketplace as an official sponsor of ESPN HD provides exceptional brand recognition value for our dealers as well.”

Almo will stock the 5 Series, the midlevel line in Olevia’s good-better-best LCD product matrix. It features 1,366 by 768 pixel high-definition resolution and an 8ms response time. Also included are built-in ATSC and NTSC tuners. Contrast is listed as 1,600:1, and the viewing angle is said to be 178 degrees. Source connections include: PC compatibility of 1,360 by 768 at 60Hz through HDMI and VGA, and video compatibility through HDMI, HD component, composite and S-Video inputs.

Almo’s customers will have a chance to learn about the new brand addition at the distributor’s 10-market Consumer Electronics and Appliance Expo, which kicks off at company headquarters here April 11-12. Almo has initiated a major expansion of its regional dealer events with a new format that includes expanded seminar and vendor training schedules; larger show floors, which will bring electronic and appliance displays into the same venue; door-buster show specials from all participating vendors; and a new vendor-sponsored scratch-and-win game for attendees. Almo also said that some of the shows in larger markets will now be extended to last two days.

In other news, Almo has partnered with ProfitExpress, a parts service operated by AP Wagner. The new service will allow Almo dealers to direct their customers to order replacement parts through ProfitExpress and the dealer will receive a commission for parts sold.

ProfitExpress does its business via a toll free phone number and Web site. According to a release, ProfitExpress has its call center staff available from 8:00 a.m. through midnight EST to guide consumers through the sale.

Once a purchase is made, the company says the parts are shipped directly to the customer’s home within one to two days. ProfitExpress is also said to handle returns and follow-up inquiries so Almo dealers can remain hands-off while still profiting from its referral.
