Adobe Upgrades Photoshop Albums

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 10/6/2003

San Jose, Calif. - Adobe announced on Oct. 6 the second generation of its entry-level Adobe Photoshop Albums program, with the ability to send images to mobile phones, Palm OS handhelds and Series 2 TiVos.

Albums 2.0, a follow on to the company’s first entry level omnibus digital imaging program, can send images to a TiVo PVR using TiVo’s Home Media Option software. Consumers can send Album images to mobile phones and Palm OS-based handhelds thanks to new device recognition software in Albums’ 'direct share' list.

Aside from the new connectivity options, the program sports a new user interface, and templates for creating greeting cards, photo books, calendars and slide shows.

Album 2.0 offers enhancements to the Calendar View feature, which allows consumers to view photos in a year, day or month view, making it possible to track a photo collection chronologically. A new 'Collections' feature acts as an organizational bin for specific sets of photos that can then be sorted, re-ordered and dropped into instant slideshows or album views.

The upgraded Albums retains direct links to third party online photo services such as Shutterfly and MyPublisher.com to allow users to order photo prints and linen-covered hardbound photo books over the Internet.

Photoshop Albums 2.0 is shipping now with a $49 suggested retail price. Adobe will also offer an Album bundle, which includes Album 2.0 and Photoshop Elements 2.0 in one box for a suggested retail price of $129.99. Elements 2.0 retails standalone for $99.
