Kodak Bows Special EasyShare Camera

Rochester, N.Y. — Kodak made an addition to its EasyShare line up of digital cameras and docking stations with the "special edition" LS420. The 2.1-megapixel LS420 weighs in at five-and-a-half ounces and is now shipping for a suggested retail price of $299. Unlike previous EasyShare cameras, the LS420 ships with a mini-sized EasyShare camera dock in the box. The camera also comes bundled with Kodak Picture Software for image editing, a rechargeable battery pack. The camera features an all-glass 3x digital zoom lens and Kodak's proprietary color science technology. For those out at night, the LS420 introduces a new night shot mode that improves the clarity of the picture subject and background. In addition, users can take QuickTime video with sound. The LS420 features 8MB of internal memory, plus an expansion slot.

San Disk Scales Back

Sunnyvale, Calif.— San Disk announced last week that it is scaling back its role in Digital Portal Inc. (DPI) — the company's joint venture with European minilab manufacturer Photo-Me International to produce digital print kiosks and digital minilabs. According to San Disk president/CEO Eli Harari, the change in DPI's business model nearly a year ago (from a lease-click revenue sharing venture to a strictly sales-based model) brought about the decision to scale back San Disk's involvement. Photo-Me will assume responsibility to finance and direct the future growth of DPI. As part of the change, DPI has relocated its headquarters to Dallas where Photo-Me has its U.S. headquarters. According to Harari, DPI's current strategy remains unchanged and San Disk still has a stake in the company.
