Sanyo Unveils High-Capacity Storage System

LAS VEGAS -Sanyo Fisher showed its first digital camera to utilize the 730MB iD Photo storage disc capable of storing 11,000 digital still images or 120 minutes of video.

The IDC-1000Z iDShot camera, shipping in early 2001 with a $1,299 suggested retail price, is the first camera to feature the iD Photo magneto-optical disc. The discs are 50mm in diameter and expected to cost about $35 each.

Sanyo, Olympus Optical and Hitachi Maxell jointly developed the technology.

The 1.5-megapixel camera can capture TIFF-quality digital still images and VGA-level video at 30 frames per second. Other features include an IEEE 1394 interface, 1.8 LCD and optical viewfinder, and the unit can capture sounds in Wav format.
