Thomson Introduces Tiny Air Mouse Presenter

By Staff -- TWICE, 12/5/2005

The Thomson Consumer Accessories Solutions Business is introducing a Gyration-brand advanced, ultra-small wireless remote control/presentation device said to eliminate the hassle of hauling a laptop or PC to deliver a presentation.

Called the Gyrotransport Air Mouse presenter, the unit, about the size of a typical auto key fob, offers 1GB of built-in memory and features a “swipes” button that enables presenters to use hand motions to remotely activate over 80 software activities, including PowerPoint, multimedia and special effects tools.

The Gyrotransport, part of Thomson's Gyration product family, provides all the capability of a mouse using in-air control and features a high-power radio signal which frees the presenter to roam anywhere within 100 feet of the PC.

Thomson introduced the product last month at the 2006 International CES press preview here. Suggested retail is $199.

A user downloads content such as PowerPoint files, MP3 titles, photos and video from a PC to the Gyrotransport's flash-memory drive via a USB connection. At the location where the presentation is made, the user plugs the Gyrotransport into a standard USB port on a compatible PC, and the files are instantly accessible. To use the Gyrotransport air mouse features, the user simply points and clicks to launch a presentation, said the company.

The swipes button, in combination with pre-loaded GyroTools software, enables users to program their natural movement to engage presentation functions and other tools, said Thomson.
