Paramount Becomes Last To Do Blu

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 2/21/2008

New York – As expected, former HD DVD exclusive studio Paramount officially announced it will now produce high-definition movies on Blu-ray Disc, a day after Toshiba pulled the plug on the HD DVD format, according to a published report.

Paramount, which briefly carried HD discs in both formats before agreeing to incentives to side exclusively with HD DVD last year, and its affiliated DreamWorks Animation had been the last of the major studios to publicly acknowledge Blu-ray Disc support. All six major Hollywood studios are now on board with Blu-ray Disc.

According to a statement from the studio issued to The Hollywood Reporter Wednesday: “We are pleased that the industry is moving to a single high-definition format, as we believe it is in the best interest of the consumer. As we look to (begin) releasing our titles on Blu-ray, we will monitor consumer adoption and determine our release plans accordingly.”

No titles or release schedules had been announced as this was posted.
