Belkin Cables, Power Conditioner New At CED

Staff -- TWICE, 1/24/2005

RazorVision video cables, a line of component, DVI and HDMI products, were new from Belkin at CES here. The cables, a latest addition to the company's PureAV line of audio/video products, are being launched in partnership with San Diego-based DigiVision, a provider of image enhancement products.

By incorporating DigiVision's technology into high-quality video interconnects, Compton, Calif.-based Belkin said the cables will improve video content regardless of which display is being used.

With RazorVision cabling, Belkin expects increased contrast with more visible details, brighter whites and blacker blacks, restored details in glare and shadows and no edge outline artifacts. Users can upgrade the picture in their existing televisions with the RazorVision cables, or users can install the cables with a new TV. The cables also work with all TV sources, such as DVD and VCR players; PVRs; game consoles; PCs; and digital and analog cable, satellite and off-air antenna sources.

Belkin will offer RazorVision in a standard-definition component cable that will handle 480i format. Customers can also purchase a digital version that will handle all ATSC video rates — 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p in both DVI and HDMI versions.

Suggested retails for the new cables range from $149.99 to $249.99, and the line will be shipping in May. Belkin said it will be launching DVI, HDMI and DVI to HDMI cables that support HD, as well as a component version that supports only SD in 8-foot and 16-foot lengths.

A new power conditioner from Belkin is designed to remove noises and interference from AC power to protect flat-panel plasma TVs, LCDs and HDTVs. Called the PureAV HDTV Power Conditioner PFHD, model AP10300-10, the unit comes in a low-profile design to fit behind or adjacent to most flat-panel displays., and is currently shipping at a $199.99 suggested retail.
