Motorola Device Adds GPS To Existing Phones

BARCELONA, SPAIN — Motorola unveiled its first GPS receivers that will turn Bluetooth cellular phones into personal navigation devices.

At the recent 3GSM conference, Motorola unveiled a silver-dollar-sized Bluetooth-equipped assisted-GPS receiver that fits in a pocket and sends the user's GPS coordinates to a cellphone, which displays maps and delivers route-guidance instructions by voice and onscreen display.

The T805 version is bundled with 12 months of MOTONAV service, which is hosted by Motorola and delivers maps, driving instructions and points of interest via cellular to the phone. The T815, intended for phones with memory-card slots, includes a database loaded on a memory card. Both versions ship with a car charger and universal phone holder.

No shipping or pricing details were announced.
