Panasonic Bows Wi-Fi-Enabled Digital Camera

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 4/21/2008

Making good on their, International CES promise, Panasonic formally announced their first Wi-Fi-enabled digital camera last week.

Due in May for $449, the 9-megapixel Lumix DMC-TZ50 can connect to home networks and to Google's Picasa Web Album online photo site via T-Mobile HotSpot service. Consumers can upload their images directly from the camera to Picasa Web Albums online photo site where they can browse albums on the camera's 3-inch LCD screen.

The camera will bundle 12 months' worth of free T-Mobile Hotspot service.

The TZ50 features a 10x optical, 28mm zoom lens, 720p video recording, 23 scene modes and Panasonic's advanced intelligent auto mode. The advanced intelligent auto mode activates seven in-camera technologies — intelligent exposure, digital red-eye correction, Mega OIS, intelligent ISO, intelligent scene selector, face detection and continuous AF — automatically.

The LCD screen can adjust its brightness based on ambient lighting conditions, and it offers a maximum ISO of 6,400.
