TDK Details Its VeloCD Line Up

LAS VEGAS — TDK today announced the specifics of its CES product introductions.

On the CD-RW front the company has six new drives in its VeloCD line, four of, which are now shipping, plus the FE-321040 and the UE-321040. The former is an external Firewire model shipping next month. It has 32x write, 10x rewrite and 40x read speeds. It will be followed in March by a USB external version with the same feature set. Pricing was not announced. TDK's multimedia speaker introduction is centered on the S-40, which is in the company's Tremor speaker line. The S-40, no price or ship date available, uses NXT's SurfaceSound technology and is targeted at the first time aftermarket speaker buyer.

Imation To Ship FlashGo

LAS VEGAS — Imation will start shipping the FlashGo, a USB peripheral removable memory reader. The device accepts Compact Flash (Type I and II), SmartMedia, Multimedia Card, Secure Digital, Memory Stick, and IBM's Microdrive. It will carry a $19.99 suggested retail price.

ATI Demos Graphics Card With PVR Function

LAS VEGAS — ATI is demonstrating its new 8500DV All-In-Wonder Radeon multimedia graphics board that can turn a PC into a PVR and allows the computer's DVD-ROM to be viewed on a TV. With a $399 suggested retail price, the 8500DV has an RF remote control allowing the PC to be separated by several rooms from the TV, but still controlled by the viewer. Other features include a 125-channel TV tuner, a 1394 port, Gemstar-TV Guide's Guide Plus+ and the enhanced TV-On-Demand for controlling the PVR functionality. The 8500DV started shipping last week.
