Flash-Drive Makers Add Software

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 11/9/2007

New York — USB flash drives are increasingly sold not as stand-alone storage devices, but as a repository for games and software.

Flash-memory maker Kingston Technology will add an electronic version of the game Sudoku to its line of DataTraveler Mini Fun USB drives.

The drive also includes the game Atlantis from Big Fish Games. The Mini Fun will be available in 1GB, 2GB and 4GB capacities for a suggested $16, $28 and $62, respectively.

The firm will also ship a version of the DataTraveler Mini with PC synchronization software from Migo. In addition to files and folders, the software can copy and store emails, Internet favorites, settings, history and cookies.

It will be available in the same capacities and same price as the Mini Fun.

Vancouver-based Hush Communications will launch the StealthSurfer flash drive for anonymous Web surfing. The drive is loaded with an encrypted Web browser, Roboform password-manager software and MojoDrive software which lets consumers run program off the drive without leaving a trace on the host computer.

The drives will be available in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities for a suggested $179, $225 and $279 respectively.
