Gateway Sells Off Professional Computer Division

Irvine, Calif. — Gateway sold off its professional business computer division today to MPC Computers for an estimated $90 million.
This deal follows the $710 million merger the company entered into with Acer last month that will have the Taiwanese computer and CE maker control of Gateway’s consumer business. The agreement also gives MPC control of the segment of Gateway’s consumer direct business that sells to businesses with fewer then 100 employees. In addition MPC gains Gateway’s final assembly facility in Nashville.
MPC and Gateway said upon the close of the deal, a “significant portion” of the latter’s professional division employees will switch over to MPC and continue to work out of Gateway’s North Sioux City, S.D., facility.
MPC is based in Nampa, Idaho, and sells to small- and medium-sized business, as well as the education and government markets.
