CES Attendance Sets New Record

Staff -- TWICE, 5/28/2001

ARLINGTON, VA. — More people attended International CES 2001 than even the show organizer, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), realized.

Expomark, the exhibition auditing unit of the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC), reviewed CEA's records and verified a grand total of 126,730 attendees, an all-time record.

CEA's original estimate of 122,422 was 96.5 percent accurate, according to Gary Shapiro, president/CEO of CEA. Karen Chupka, CEA events and conferences VP, noted, "Even with the retail industry consolidating, retail buyers still represent the core of CES attendance with nearly 40 percent classifying themselves as retail buyers and distributors." However, non-retail attendance at CES is more than half its audience, due to non-retail buyers and the B2B market, Chupka said.
