Lowrance Introduces Globalmap Baja GPS Device During CES '07

By Staff -- TWICE, 1/8/2007

Lowrance Electronics is introducing its Globalmap Baja 540C GPS device for off-highway use at booth 326 in the North Hall.

The all-color system is the most up-to-date version of the GlobablMap Baja line. Its latest features include a video-compatible five-pin Ethernet expansion port, two full RS-232 ports for NMEA 0183 connectivity, and a background map with more detail than previous versions due to the product's increased flash memory.

The company said the product offers superb viewing and mapping detail even in bright sunlight. It features a 5-inch, 480- by 480-pixel, 256-color TFT LCD display with adjustable screen and keypad backlighting.

The product is said to deliver 12-parallel channel GPS+WAAS reception and a rugged external LGC receiver/antenna module. It also comes with a weather- and dust-proof MMC/SD memory card slot that accepts a variety of Lowrance mapping mapcards, including the FreedomMaps USA eEX Topo mapcards that retail for $99.99 each.

The Baja 540c is said to be capable of storing up to 1,000 waypoints, 1,000 event markers, 100 routes and more. It features 40 map display ranges and 42 different graphic icons to mark spots. The company said point-and-map cursor navigation and route planning is simplified while menu and pages keys provide easy access to a variety of navigation features and modes.

The product comes in a case that has been sealed to help it stand up against the elements and has a suggested retail of $499.
