Sony Shows Mini Hard Drive

Park Ridge, N.J.— Sony introduced a 5GB hard drive contained in a CompactFlash II card.

The $199 CompactVault drive, shipping late this month, is intended for digital camera enthusiasts and professionals who require vast amounts of storage space, the company said. The drive can hold 1,600 3-megapixel JPEGs or 200 minutes of MPEG-4 video. It has a 12MBps data transfer rate.

BenQ Bows New LCD

Irvine, Calif.— This January BenQ will ship the FP93GX, a 19-inch LCD monitor that features a company best two millisecond gray-to-gray screen response time, making it more than suitable for gaming and multimedia applications, the company said. The speed is attained through the company's proprietary Advanced Motion Accelerator technology that accelerates the twisting speed of liquid crystal by increasing the voltage. It will carry a $429 suggested retail price.
