Garmin is introducing the nuvi 350, a personal travel assistant that combines a handheld GPS navigator with a language translator, travel guide, MP3 and audio-book player in a single palm-sized device.
The unit is about the size of a deck of cards with a 3.5-inch color touch screen. It has an SD card slot and mini USB jack and claims a battery life of four to eight hours. The nuvi also includes a currency and measurement converter, world clock and digital photo organizer.
The nuvi ships with preloaded maps of the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. It has text-to-speech capability, to announce the names of streets for upcoming turns. Users must purchase separate SD cards for the travel guide and language translator at $75 each. The travel guide allows travelers to browse restaurant menus and offers reviews for restaurants, hotels, shopping and nightlife. The language guide supports nine languages.
The nuvi 350 is shipping now at a suggested retail price of $899.
