Samsung Unveils Trio of 8-Megapixel Cameras

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 7/13/2007

Ridgefield Park, N.J. — Samsung added three 8-megapixel digital cameras to its L and S series yesterday.

The cameras are compatible with SDHC memory cards up to 4GB.

The 8-megapixel L83T sports a 3x optical zoom internal lens, a 2.5-inch LCD screen, 14 scene modes, 19MB of internal memory, macro focus to 1cm and a motion-capture function for snapping seven images in one second.

It offers a maximum sensitivity of ISO 1600 and incorporates Samsung’s Advanced Shake Reduction (ASR) image stabilization system, which boosts shutter speed and ISO to reduce blur.

The camera also incorporates Samsung’s recently introduced Wise Shot and face detection (formerly dubbed face recognition) technologies. The former takes two images, one with ASR on and the other with the flash and presents them on the LCD for comparison. The later can spot up to nine faces in a frame and adjust exposure and focus accordingly.

The L83T features Samsung’s i-movie mode, which records SVGA resolution (800 by 592) MPEG-4 video at 20 fps. It features a “successive recording” mode for pausing and resuming film clips without creating individual video files.

The camera ships next month for a suggested $279.

The L830 sports a 3x optical zoom SHD lens, a 2.5-inch LCD, nine scene modes, a dedicated-effects button for accessing creative and image editing controls, and a maximum ISO equivalent of 1600. It offers 16MB of internal memory, ASR, face detection and i-movie.

The L830 ships in September for a suggested $229.

Finally, the S85 sports a 5x optical zoom lens (38mm-190mm, 35mm equivalent), a 2.5-inch LCD, motion capture, 14 scene modes, 1cm macro focusing, special effects and fun modes and 20MB of internal memory .

The S85 records VGA video at 30 fps with successive recording and can use the full length of the zoom during recording. It also features successive recording. It will ship in late September for a suggested $229.
