Cellboost Battery Charges Camcorders, Smartphones

LAS VEGAS — Compact Power Systems (CPS), marketers of the Cellboost brand of disposable battery/charger for cellphones, is offering new Cellboost products for camcorders and smartphones. These are set for release over the next few months and will support top brands, including Sony, Canon and Panasonic camcorders and Blackberry, Treo and Sidekick smartphones.
The original Cellboost is now sold in most U.S. major mass market and electronics retailers, and also is sold online and internationally. Company officials credit the product's extensive market penetration to its ability to address cellphone owners' need for backup battery power instantly, inexpensively and compactly. Users with dead or almost-dead cellphone batteries simply plug the matchbook-sized product into the phone's charging port and keep talking or using other handset functions without interruption.
Cellboost delivers an average of 60 minutes of talktime/60 hours of standby time, with no need for an electrical outlet or any other external power, battery changes or charging time. It also charges the phone as the user talks without interfering with the conversation, can be used in one session or reused over several sessions, and can be thrown away when all of its power is exhausted. The product, from CPS, a subsidiary of Canoga Park, Calif.-based ESI Enterprises, typically sells for $6 to $7.
