Sharp Demos Super-Thin LCD
by Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 10/2/2007
Tokyo — As Sony launches onto the Japanese consumer market an 11-inch OLED TV measuring just 0.11 inches thick, Sharp is demonstrating at CEATEC a 12.1-inch LCD panel with just about the same thickness.
The new LCD panel was said to be three-times thinner than Sharp’s previous LCD versions. A previous 12.1 LCD panel measured 0.39 inches thick, the company said.
Resolution for Sharp’s prototype LCD panel was 1,280 by 800 pixels. The contrast ratio was said to be 2,000:1, and the response time was listed at 8ms. The panel color range covers 80 percent of the NTSC specification.
Sharp used an LED light source for backlighting.
Sharp has not yet set a market introduction date for the technology.
