Audio Advice Acquires Innovative Systems

By Colleen Bohen -- TWICE, 12/15/2008

Audio Advice has announced a two-pronged expansion plan based on its acquisition and absorption of home-automation company Innovative Systems and its move to break in to the Charlotte, N.C., market.

"Innovative Systems is a best-in-class home-automation company. Jim Williamson, who headed Innovative in Raleigh, has a terrific reputation in our market and brings a strong management and automation background to us," said Scott Newnam, president and CEO of Audio Advice.

Audio Advice, named Best A/V Specialty Dealers earlier this year as part of TWICE's annual Excellence In Retailing Awards (see TWICE, Oct. 20, p. 20), has absorbed Innovative Systems and plans to only use the Audio Advice name, a company spokesperson told TWICE.

"Innovative Systems in Raleigh sold much of the same products as we do and was less than two miles from our facility," Newnam told TWICE in an email. "We are fully integrating it into our operations."

As for Williamson, "Jim continues in his role," said Newnam.

"Our team is excited to be a part of Audio Advice. Since I first entered the home-automation market years ago, Audio Advice was known as the market leader. I believe the combination of my team's capabilities with those of Audio Advice will provide our customer with unmatched solutions and service."

In addition to its acquisition, Audio Advice plans to expand into the metro Charlotte area under the leadership of Charlotte-based 15-year industry veteran Todd Smith.

"Audio Advice is known throughout the Carolinas as the premier company in the audio and video industry. We plan to continue the focus on high performance and customer service in the metro Charlotte area," said Smith.

"We have been looking at the Charlotte market for nearly two years and felt that we have had a good opportunity now with the right people. There are pros and cons of expanding now given the macroeconomic environment, and we feel that the pros outweigh the cons," said Newnam.
