What makes a product sell at retail?

NEW YORK — With the generous cooperation of The NPD Group, TWICE is pleased to present its second annual Success Stories report.
NPD, Port Washington, N.Y., has provided us with dollar sales information in a variety of categories for the 12 months ending in June 2003. TWICE is profiling some of the best-selling products in video, home audio, digital imaging, mobile electronics, computers, communications, accessories and major appliances.
In profiling each of the products TWICE editors selected, we asked the manufacturers why they thought their wares were popular with consumers. We also interviewed the retailers, who gave their opinions as to why an individual product became a hit. And "Top 10" lists appear with each report, giving credit to the other models in the category that have proven their popularity in the past year.
The report begins with the Video section on p. 24 and continues throughout the issue to p. 34 with Major Appliances. TWICE thanks The NPD Group for its help and cooperation in making this report a reality.
