BELLEVUE, WASH. — T-Mobile priced its Sidekick wireless voice/data device at $199 after $50 rebate and the service at an introductory $39.99/month. It's available through 650 T-Mobile-operated stores, CompUSA, and the carrier's Web site.
The plan offers unlimited Web surfing, e-mail, and AOL IM service, plus 200 anytime voice minutes and 1,000 weekend minutes, including long distance. The device itself features HTML Web browsing, sharing of up to three POP3 e-mail accounts, PIM functions, games, monochrome display, and ability to accept add-on digital camera.
The GPRS-based handheld looks like a QWERTY-keyboard-equipped two-way pager. Calls can be placed through a hands-free headset or through the speakerphone.
Danger developed the device and its back-end infrastructure.
