Toshiba, Planting 80K Trees In So. Calif.

New York — Toshiba America is making a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation to plant 80,000 trees in Southern California natural forest areas damaged by last October’s wildfires.

Toru Uchiike, Toshiba America’s chairman and CEO, will present a check to John Rosenow, founder and chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation, at the National Press Club in Washington on Friday.

Next spring, Toshiba volunteers will assist the foundation in planting the new trees.

According to Toshiba, its Southern California reforestation effort is part of a larger initiative announced by parent company Toshiba Corporation of Japan in 2006. At the time, the company set a group-wide goal to plant 1.5 million trees worldwide by 2025, the year of Toshiba’s 150^th anniversary. Toshiba said it has other tree-planting projects currently planned or underway in Japan, China, Thailand, Kenya, Philippines, India and Paraguay.
