iGo Launches Recycling Program For Chargers

By John Laposky -- TWICE, 5/18/2009

With a new green product line coming out later this year, iGo has launched iGo Recycles, an electronic device and charger recycling program created to reduce landfill waste.

The new green section of iGo’s Web site, www.iGoGreen.com, lists local depots where customers can recycle electronic devices and features a widget for customers to find local electronic device recyclers by ZIP code. Customers can create shipping labels on the site or locate drop-off locations to send their old chargers back to iGo to be recycled.

iGo has partnered with Waste Management to process all returned chargers in compliance with all local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations, and will recycle the chargers in conjunction with Waste Management’s Recycle America’s ISO certifications and the Basel Action Network’s environmental stewardship pledge.

“As a leader in the power solutions industry, iGo must help reduce the amount of materials our industry pours into landfills,” said Michael Heil, iGo’s president and CEO.” It isn’t enough for our chargers to just provide the lowest standby power draw on the market, or to reduce e-waste through the iGo power tip solution. iGo Recycles extends our commitment to reduce the amount of electronic devices and chargers in landfills.”

iGo will introduce its iGoGreen Technology product line this summer. Initial products in the line will include a green laptop charger, an eight-outlet surge protector and a wall outlet.

The company said the iGo Green products will use 80 percent less standby power than standard power products.
