Onkyo Plans Blu-ray In Late '08

By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 7/1/2008

Osaka, Japan — Onkyo will ships its first Blu-ray player for the U.S. and other markets in late 2008, the company announced without revealing pricing or product details.

The player is designed to mate with the latest Onkyo A/V receivers, which feature HDMI 1.3 inputs and internal decoding of all authorized Blu-ray surround formats. Onkyo, which was a backer of HD DVD, decided to drop the format in February. The company shipped some HD DVD models in late 2007 and early 2008 before key HD DVD supporter Toshiba announced it would no longer support the format.
