Sony’s Bob Weissburg Exits

By Steve Smith -- TWICE, 3/1/2004

Park Ridge, N.J. - Another top Sony Electronics executive will not make the company’s planned move from here to San Diego later this year.

Bob Weissburg, president of Sony Electronics’ consumer sales organization, will resign and be replaced on April 1 by Stan Glasgow, who currently heads Sony Electronics’ IT products division and is already based in San Diego.

In a prepared statement Sony Electronics said, 'During the past few months [Weissburg] came to the conclusion that the top sales management position should be based in San Diego, along with the heads of our three consumer marketing divisions and our overall… management team.'

The statement went onto say that the original plan called for Weissburg to work out of offices 'on both coasts.'

In recent months Sony veterans such as senior VPs/ senior GMs of Sony Electronics’, Mike Vitelli, Vic Pacor, Jim Bonan opted to resign rather than make the move west.

In an interview with TWICE last week during the Sony Electronics annual East Coast line show in New Jersey last week Mark Viken, corporate marketing VP who replaced Pacor, discussed the other recent departures. Viken said while the company has lost a few veteran executives 'our dealers should feel confident in the team we have here in the U.S.' and indicated that the company would not 'skip a beat.'
