Terk, Samsung Promote HDTV With $50 Rebate
By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 8/18/2003
NEW YORK — Terk announced a national rebate program with partner Samsung at a press conference here last week. Aimed at boosting consumer awareness of HDTV, the program offers consumers who purchase a Samsung HDTV set-top box and selected Terk HDTV antennas a $50 rebate.
According to Greg Keys, Terk executive VP/sales and marketing, the exact details of the rebate program will be revealed later in the month.
"Consumers need to know that they can get free, over-the-air HDTV signals to their house and we're glad Samsung had the confidence in our vision to partner with us," Keys said.
Keys also said that Terk had reached an "agreement in principle" to be the exclusive sales agent for the first XM-branded satellite car audio products on the market.
The product line, which is code named "Commander," will be officially announced on Aug. 26, with more product details accompanying the official launch.
Terk also introduced the AMP-15, a 15dB amplifier designed to improve the signal strength needed for broadband cable and UHF/VHF/FM/HDTV antenna reception.
"Since there are numerous obstacles that can degrade performance, such as signals being weakened when they are split into multiple paths or by long cable runs, the AMP-15 is ideal for consumers who face these challenges," Keys said.
Traditional amplifiers block the communication from a PC back to the Internet or from a cable box back to the service provider but the AMP-15 supports two-way communication required for broadband cable devices. It includes a power adapter and 6-foot RG-59 connection cable.
It is shipping now for a suggested retail price of $49.95.
