First Texas Bows Gen-3 iGen Night Vision Device At CES

By Staff -- TWICE, 1/8/2007

First Texas Products rode into town with a night-vision device whose performance is said to exceed Gen 1 and Gen 2 technologies in quality, resolution and clarity while rivaling Gen 3 technology at a fraction of the price. It's showing at South Hall in booth 31850.

The $699 iGEN 20/20 night-vision monocular uses proprietary image-processing technology to see at night, but it can also be used during the day to take advantage of its 2.3x magnification, the firm said.

First Texas claimed its proprietary technology delivers a clear and undistorted image without the halo effect and other anomalies associated with vacuum-tube technologies used in Gen 1, 2, and 3 models. The company also said image quality doesn't deteriorate as the device ages because it doesn't use a photo cathode.

In what the company called an industry first, iGEN features a video connection to make nighttime video recordings.

At only 9 inches by 4 inches by 2.5 inches, and weighing 21 ounces, it's small enough to be stored on camping, hunting or hiking trips for security use or fun.

Gen 1 models retail for a suggested $149 to $299, while Gen 2 models retail for a suggested $1,500 and up, the company said. Gen 3 products are priced from $2,000 to $10,000. iGEN costs only $699 and delivers 30 line pairs of resolution compared to the 22 and 18 line pairs for Gen 2 and 1 products, respectively. Gen 3 delivers 35 to 45 lines pairs.

iGEN's other statistics include a field of view of 70 feet at 330 feet with a 12-degree angle of view. The device operates on four AA batteries.
