Sima IR/RF Remote Operates From 'Anywhere'

Staff -- TWICE, 9/6/2004

By combining the direct simplicity of an IR remote with the powerful utility of RF signal transmission, the SUR-47 universal remote control from Sima Products can operate equipment from any room in a home or office, since an IR/RF relay base transmits through walls and around corners.

The SUR-47, said to provide a higher level of flexibility and convenience for the power user, also combines touch screen flexibility and hard button functionality. Users press a button to select a device and the touch screen displays the appropriate control panel instantly. A remote locator is used to find the hand unit when lost.

With demand for multifaceted remotes growing, according to Sima, home entertainment systems can be operated in ways unheard of a few years ago. Features, such as the IR/RF signal and quick-access channel groups, make this unit much more than a remote control. Today it is a personal command center. The quick-channel grouping allows storage of favorite TV channels by category.

Key features include equipment operation anywhere within 100 feet, initiation of up to 60 commands with a single button using the macro feature, an adjustable back light, quick channels and 10 RF channels. The SUR-47 operates up to 16 A/V devices, eliminating the need for multiple remotes.

The unit, which became available earlier this summer, has a suggested $199 retail.
