Las Vegas — Samsung will introduce a new line of LED HDTVs with Web widgets from Yahoo!
The announcement was made at the company’s International CES press conference, here.
The Internet@TV content service will feature a series of widgets based on an open platform that will bring a “cinematic Internet” to consumer TVs, said Patrick Barry, connected TV VP, Yahoo! The experience is controlled through a remote and includes news, stocks, photos, video and eventually streaming TV, social networking and full-length movies.
The new Luxia LED TVs will be 1-inch thick and feature an ultra-slim wall mount, which reduces the distance between the TV and wall to 0.6-inches.
The LEDs will be mercury free and offer a 40 percent reduction in energy consumption compared with conventional LCDs, said Tim Baxter, sales and marketing EVP.
They will also include the company’s Auto Motion Plus frame interpolation technology. The 7000 and 8000 series will feature wired and wireless Internet connectivity.
The 8000 series will feature a refresh rate of 240Hz, while the 7000 and 6000 will offer a 120Hz refresh rate. The company will integrate a new user interface across its product line, starting with digital cameras.
