Pure Digital Launches Higher-Capacity Video Camera

By Staff -- TWICE, 10/8/2007

Pure Digital Technologies will ship a new flash-based video camera and related accessories to retailers this month and launch a charity program aimed at distributing millions of its previous-generation models to non-profits.

The new Flip Video Ultra series will pack more internal memory than the previous Flip models, which stay on the market. A 2GB/60-minute model will retail for a suggested $179. It will be available in white, black, orange and pink. A 1GB/30-minute model will retail for $149 and will be sold in black and white.

Flip Ultra features built-in software for editing and uploading videos to popular video-sharing sites such as YouTube. The software also lets users create custom movies or pull still images from movie files.

The camera features a 1.5-inch LCD screen and a 2x digital zoom.

Like the previous model, the new Flip Ultra can be brought to participating retailers to have its contents burned to a DVD for home viewing. CVS/pharmacy, Rite Aid, Ritz Camera Centers, Longs Drugs and Duane Reade all offer the ability to produce DVDs from the Flip Video.

A line of accessories will accompany the new camera to market, including a pouch, tripod, mount and USB extension cables.

The company will also offer its Flip Video flash-based camcorders to non-profits in a donor-match program. The Flip Video Spotlight program is designed to give non profits and non-government organizations (NGOs) the ability to document their activities around the world.

In December, Pure Digital will launch FlipVideoSpotlight.com where qualified non-profits and NGOs can purchase a Flip camcorder. Donors will also be able to make purchases or donations through the site on behalf of affiliated non-profits or NGOs. Pure Digital said it would offer a free Spotlight kit for each one purchased with the intention of distributing 1 million camcorders over the next five years.
