FRS/GMRS Sales Continue To Rise

Staff -- TWICE, 7/8/2002

Sales for FRS/GMRS remain strong and are projected to exceed last year's levels, according to industry members.

Motorola estimates that FRS/GMRS sales for the industry this year will hit 11.5 million to 12 million units, up from 10.1 million units in 2001 and 7.5 million units in 2000. Cobra's estimates are more aggressive, forecasting sales of more than 16 million radios this year, up from 15 million to 15.5 million in 2001 and 12 million in 2000.

Meanwhile, average selling prices for two-way radios continue to decline. According to NPDTechworld, Port Washington, N.Y., year-to-date prices are $50.36, compared to $53.25 in 2001 and $62.95 in 2000.

A story that appeared on p. 24 of the June 24 issue of TWICE had an incorrect headline, which should have stated that prices on FRS/GMRS continue to drop.
