Samsung Adds HD Capture To Entry-Level Camera Line

By TWICE Staff -- TWICE, 2/23/2009

Samsung added four new models to its SL series in advance of the PMA show, bringing HD video capture to the entry-level line for the first time.

The SL820 and SL620 will be 12-megapixel models with a 3-inch display and 5x optical zoom lens with optical stabilization.

They will incorporate a “smart auto” mode that chooses from one of 11 scene modes to match the shooting environment and a “smart album” function for searching through saved image files.

The cameras will also feature face detection, blink detection, smile shot and a beauty shot mode that removes facial blemishes from subjects.

The SL820 incorporates a 28mm lens, 720p video recording and an HDMI output; it ships in May for $279.

The SL620 features a 35mm lens and VGA resolution video capture. It is due in March for $199.

The SL202 and SL30 will incorporate 10-megapixel sensors, 3x optical zoom lenses and digital image stabilization.

Due in March for $149, the SL202 offers a 2.7-inch LCD and VGA/30 fps video recording with the ability to pause and resume recording without creating a new video file.

It incorporates Samsung's smart auto and smart album modes alongside face, blink and smile detection and beauty shot.

The SL30, for $99, features a 2.5-inch LCD, face detection, beauty shot and is powered through AA batteries. It will also ship in March.
