HP Adds DVD+RW To New Notebook Line

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 4/21/2003

Hewlett-Packard launched several new desktop PCs and a notebook computer equipped with a rewritable DVD drive.

The Pavilion ze5300 Series notebook ships standard with a DVD+R/RW drive and is being billed by HP as a portable entertainment studio. The series has a starting suggested retail price of $1,725 after $100 rebate and is available through hpshopping.com and the company's in-store kiosks. Consumers can configure the notebook to include a range of Intel Pentium 4 and Celeron desktop processors, up to an 80GB hard drive, three USB 2.0 ports, a 15-inch LCD and 512MB of memory. The models are bundled with HP Memories Disc Creator and ArcSoft imaging software.

On the desktop side HP has four new models, the Pavilion 505n, 515n, 725n and 735n.

The 505n is powered by an Intel Celeron 2.2GHz processor, 256MB of memory, 60GB hard drive and a CD-RW drive. It hit retail stores earlier this month with a street price of $519.

The step-up 515n has a slightly faster 2.3GHz Celeron processor, 80GB hard drive and a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive and a $599 street price.

With the 725n, HP switched over to the AMD Athlon 2400 processor and doubled the memory to 512MB of DDR. It has front and rear 1394 ports and a GeForce4 MX graphics card with 64MB of on board memory and the unit has a six-in-one flash memory reader. The unit shipped last week with a $699 street price.

The 735n, which also shipped last week, steps up to a DVD+RW/CD-RW combo drive, a 48x CD drive and a faster Athlon 2600 processor. The unit carries an $899 street price.
