Antennas Direct Adds Indoor HD Model

By John Laposky -- TWICE, 5/18/2009

Antennas Direct has added the second model to its ClearStream line of DTV antennas.

The new indoor ClearStream Convertible is specifically tuned for DTV frequencies and is designed to replace analog or other set-top antennas.

The Convertible has a removable reflector mounted on a neck that articulates up to 90 degrees, allowing the loop to be placed by itself on a television, wall, table or even outside on a window sill. The antenna has a range of up to 30 miles.

“We generally recommend installing our antennas outside to achieve optimum lock-in of digital signal,” said Richard Schneider, president of Antennas Direct. “But if you live within 30 mile of the transmitting towers and your rabbit ears don’t work, this may be the one you need.”

The ClearStream Convertible features a tapered loop design with a 12-inch by 12-inch reflector and a 9- by 10-inch footprint. It boasts a typical gain of 8 dBi and a typical low impedance mismatch of 2:1 VSWR.

It has a range of up to 30 miles and a beam width of 70 degrees. The extra-wide beam width makes it easy to aim and increases the chances of picking up signal from more than one broadcasting tower, the company said.

“We designed the ClearStream Convertible with the same aesthetics, efficiency and power found in our ClearStream 1 outdoor model, allowing you to bring the power of an outside antenna indoors,” Schneider said.

ClearStream Convertible antennas will be sold initially at Best Buy stores and online at www.bestbuy.com, and subsequently in popular national electronic chains and online retailers. It has a suggested retail of $79.99.
