Nextel Has Blackberry/RIMs Too
By Jonathan K. Dodson -- TWICE, 3/24/2003
To The Editor:
In a story by Joseph Palenchar entitled "New wireless phone/PDAs arriving, but market hasn't" (TWICE, Feb. 24, 2003, p. 44) he had quite a bit to say about the Verizon and Cingular Blackberry/RIM handhelds. I must say this was a good story but, what about Nextel and their Blackberry/RIM 6510? Maybe I missed this in another issue but I haven't seen anyone talk about this product and the features that it offers. Not only is it like all Nextel units which combine a phone, 2 way radio and wireless internet options, but it is one heck of a PDA that is on the market and has been since December 2002.
Combining all of Nextel's current features plus the features of the 6510 (32-bit processor and 8MB of flash memory. Five of the 8MB is available for data storage), why wait for Verizon or Cingular to step to the plate. It allows up to 15 POP3 accounts rather than 8 on the VersaMail 2.0. And it operates on 800MHz. What more could you need?
Maybe you have already touched on the 6510, but just in case, I had to put in my 2 cents. Thanks for the great articles!
