Samsung To Debut DLP Front Projector

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 9/1/2003

Samsung will use CEDIA Expo to give custom installers a look at its first HDTV-grade DLP front projector featuring Texas Instruments' HDTV-grade HD2 DLP chip.

Model SP-H700A is slated to ship to dealers this fall at a $10,000 suggested retail price. The unit incorporates the HD2 DMD chip, which offers a full 1,280 by 720 pixel resolution and native widescreen aspect ratio. Brightness is listed at 800 ANSI lumens, and contrast is listed at 1,200:1.

With fan noise measuring just 28dB, Samsung called the SP-H700A "the quietest projector in the world."

High-definition signal inputs include a digital DVI-D with HDCP content protection and two HD component video connectors. Other connectors include S-Video and composite video. An aspect ratio controller includes wide, normal, zoom and panoramic settings.

Other new products to be featured at the show include the company's first TiVo-enabled DirecTV decoder, which just started shipping to dealers. The $499-suggested retail SIR-S4120R will be the first DirecTV/TiVo product to incorporate a 120GB hard drive, said Chris Cudina, national sales and marketing manager for digital set-top boxes. Samsung said the device will hold up to 100 hours of programming at a time.
