Harvey Electronics Cops Top Monster Kudos

Specialty retailer Harvey Electronics proved to be a “monster” of a chain this past year, taking down the coveted Gold Award, or the Most Monsterous Dealer of the Year, at Monster Cable's annual retailer awards fete and concert, held earlier this month at the Paris Hotel, here.

Over 4,000 consumer electronics professionals from around the globe attending the International CES here the first week in January were on hand to see Lyndhurst, N.J-based Harvey cited for both its high-end CE products lineup and the New York-area retailer's reputation for in-home set-up and service of CE home theater installations.

Harvey also was awarded top audio/video independent specialist chain, while Bjorn's Audio Video of San Antonio, was presented the year's best A/V independent specialist retailer.

The New York area continued to garner Monsterous awards, with Farmingdale, N.Y.-based P.C. Richard & Son named the No. 1 power retailer.

In other awards, Al & Ed's Autosound of Van Nuys, Calif., took down the best car audio retailer. Best custom install retailer was The Little Guys, Glenwood, Ill.; Advanced Audio Design, Sarasota, Fla., was best custom install specialist; and best custom install contractor was Electronic Specialists, also based in Sarasota.

Buyer of the year awards were given to Al Hudak, Harvey; Joe Campos, P.C. Richard & Son; Tom Howell, Bjorn's; Ben Lawton, Comet Group, Rickmansworth, United Kingdom; Ken Sorhus, Best Buy Canada, Vancouver, B.C.; and Roy Nitchke, The Little Guys.

Rich Simmons, The Appropriate Connections, Gilroy, Calif., was named top custom installer. Baumeister Electronic Architects, Niles, Ill., received the custom install installation nod.

Britain's Comet Group was named international retailer of the year.
