Also at Comdex, Lexar showed its first portable USB SmartMedia reader. In the Lexar-Service Merchandise deal, the retailer's patrons who purchase Lexar USB CompactFlash media will receive free online membership to Printroom and a copy of Lexar's Shoot & Share image editing software. Memorex Doubles Production Of Flash Memory Media

LAS VEGAS Memorex is readying itself for an expected huge increase in demand for flash memory cards and has developed a new protective enclosure for the cards. Memorex officials at Comdex said the company's factories are ready to double production of the CompactFlash and SmartMedia cards. Most of the growth is due to increasing sales of digital cameras. The just-released protective covering, suggested retail price $4.99, can hold either a CompactFlash or SmartMedia card and is stackable for easy storage.
