GM Announces Expanded XM Rollout

By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 9/4/2001

Washington, D.C. - General Motors will expand its rollout of XM Satellite Radio tuners beginning in fall 2002, when more than 20 2003-model-year vehicles will get XM tuners as a factory-installed option, GM said.

The expansion will follow the automaker's previously announced plans to offer XM tuners as factory-installed options this fall on 2002 Cadillac Sevilles and DeVilles. The tuners will be available in the Cadillacs beginning in November.

GM declined to specify the 2003 models that would get the option.

Consumers will have the option to include monthly XM subscription fees into their GMAC vehicle lease or monthly car payments when the car's purchase is financed through GMAC.

XM will become the first satellite company to begin selling service on Sept. 12 in two markets (Dallas-Fort Worth and San Diego), expanding the rollout to the entire Southwest in mid-October and nationwide beginning November.

Previously, Alpine, Pioneer and Sony announced plans for September shipm, ents of aftermarket XM tuners.
