Kindle eReader for iPhone Debuts

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 3/4/2009

Seattle — Amazon.com today introduced a Kindle e-book reader application for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

The free application can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store, allowing iPhone users to access more than 240,000 books wireless, directly from their iPhone or iPod Touch. The books may be read and controlled via the units’ multi-touch screens.

The app automatically bookmarks the user’s place in his e-book, so he can resume reading either from a Kindle stand-alone Amazon eBook reader or from his iPhone or iPod touch at a later date. The bookmark is transferred to all devices.

Ian Freed, Amazon Kindle VP, said, “Kindle for iPhone and iPod Touch is a great way for customers to catch up on their current book wherever they are, like in line at the grocery store or between meetings.”

Users can also adjust the size of the text and highlight text as well as access all previously purchased books on a Kindle.
