Monster Welcomes Launch Of PS3 With Exclusive Line Of A/V Cables

By John Laposky -- TWICE, 11/20/2006

In advance of last week's highly anticipated launch of Sony's Playstation 3 (PS3), Monster Cable rolled out its GameLink line of high-performance audio/video cables designed exclusively for the new gaming console.

The line includes cables for most HDTV outputs, including an HDMI cable that delivers 1,080p high-definition video output from the Blu-ray driven PS3.

"The Playstation 3 is a state-of-the-art entertainment platform," said Noel Lee, Head Monster, "But experiencing its exceptional audio and video capabilities means it's crucial to properly connect it with high-performance cables — something that's not found inside the box. The PS3's HD games and 1,080p-capable Blu-ray Disc movies can be amazing. But not when you hook it up with inferior or general-use cables. That's why we crafted GameLink specifically for the PS3 — so it could be enjoyed the way it was truly meant to be experienced."

Monster's GameLink HDMI digital audio/video cable supports 720p, 1,080i and 1,080p video as well as 5.1 and 7.1 channel surround-sound audio. It features silver-content solder connections for optimum transfer of low-level signals, a nitrogen gas-injected dielectric insulator that maximizes video signal strength, 24k gold contacts and heavy-duty shielding for maximum rejection of interference for graphics, the company said. The cable includes Monster's proprietary Duraflex protective jacket which, according to Monster, offers greater durability and complements the cosmetics of the PS3. It will retail for a suggested $99.95.

Monster's GameLink component video and fiber optic digital audio cable kit includes all the cables needed for 720p/1,080i high-definition video and digital surround sound. The kit includes cables that boast 24k gold contacts and PS3 Multi-AV Connectors which provide greater contact pressure for maximum signal transfer and improved conductivity, according to Monster. "extra low-loss optical fiber" reduces digital jitter for clearer, more accurate game and movie sound. The kit has a suggested retail of $69.95.

Also being offered is the GameLink component video and stereo audio cable, with connections for 720p/1,080i high-definition video and enhanced stereo sound hook-up. The cable combines component video and stereo audio connections into a single cable for easier routing and connections. Monster's proprietary SingleHelix construction, with dual conductors twisted in a special helical configuration reject RF and EM interference. It carries a $59.95 suggested retail.

For audiophile gamers and movie watchers, Monster's GameLink fiber optic digital audio cable upgrades stereo audio connections from the PS3 to deliver 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound when connected to a home theater A/V receiver. It supports both Dolby Digital and DTS formats. Suggested retail is $29.95.

GameLink cables are backed by a manufacturer's lifetime warranty.
