DECT Devours Cordless Dollars

Port Washington, N.Y. — The dollar volume of DECT-based cordless phones crested over 50 percent in May, according to The NPD Group's retail-tracking service.

DECT phones accounted for 53 percent of cordless dollars for the month.

"The rapid U.S. marketplace embrace of DECT 6.0 is a great success story for the entire home communication industry," said Mike Rude, DECT Forum U.S. Working Group chairman, in a statement announcing the milestone.

Siemens Sells Phone Business

Munich, Germany — Siemens AG will sell an 80.2 percent stake in its home and office communication devices unit to Arques Industries, a German company. The unit includes Siemen's cordless phone products. The transfer is expected to close on Oct. 1. Arques bills itself as a firm that specializes in acquiring non-core activities from companies in order to develop them into businesses with sustainable profitability.
